Donate blood, save lives!

  World Blood Donor Day is marked every year on 14 June,This year, on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day 2023, the National Transfusion Centre is calling on people across the country to donate blood in a gesture of solidarity. Blood, safe blood products and their transfusion are a critical public health issue.

    They are of paramount importance in treating people suffering from a range of diseases and as a result of accidents.Becoming a volunteer blood donor is a simple but selfless step that everyone can take to strengthen their communities, support local health systems and save lives.  The annual marking of this day raises awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and is also an opportunity to thank volunteer blood donors for their life-saving gesture.

    This year's 2023 campaign has the slogan "Donate blood, save lives!" and is designed to draw attention to the importance of voluntary blood and blood component donations, with the aim of building solidarity in saving lives. This appeal emphasises the need for systematic voluntary donations of blood and blood components, thus contributing to the constant self-supply of blood products to the healthcare system.

The specific objectives of this year's campaign:

·         To express gratitude to the country's blood and blood component donors and to increase society's awareness of the need and importance of volunteering through blood and blood component donation;

·         to remind blood donors about the permanent donation of blood/blood components throughout the year, which allows to maintain sufficient blood stocks, providing the possibility of timely blood transfusion;

·         to recognise and promote the significance of volunteering by donating blood and blood components to strengthen public solidarity and social cohesion;

·         the need to increase investment to maintain the quality of blood product-dependent healthcare and the accessibility of voluntary blood and blood component donation to donors.

Blood donation is an act of solidarity in saving lives. Blood and blood products are an essential element of every healthcare system. The participation and interest of partners in supporting the campaign is welcome, so that World Blood Donor Day on 14 June 2023 becomes a national holiday for blood donors - the people who give life.
